It just has to be regulated. The easy way it is has to be a bonafide endorsement deal at fair market value. In your example, a blanket endorsement of $1M per player is not fair market value as it is clear not all players would have the same fair market value. And fair market value works both ways. Despite the compensation, the player also has to perform ($1 million in your example) worth of service to the company.

They could also say "team" endorsement deals are just against the rules altogether.
