network(s) a school's games were broadcast on.
For example, Mizzou was relegated to SEC Network for most of the 5-year period they sampled, which significantly affected our viewership due to the number of households that carry it compared to, say, ESPN or ESPN2... which many sports fans turn on by default.
If they had sampled the 5-year period between 2008 and 2013, it would have made a *huge* difference. Instead, it was the period immediately following the fallout of the 2015 protests.
The methodology also ignores many important factors — like whether a university has a longstanding tradition in major conferences, whether it's likely to be a geographic fit, whether it *actually* delivers its TV markets, and other things like enrollment, brand recognition, rivalries, academic profile, flagship status, etc.
Again, it's the dumbest ranking methodology I've ever seen, yet most people will take it at face value, without scrutiny.
