Programs like Miami, Tennessee, Jackson State are throwing wads of cash at kids that normally would sign with Bama/Georgia/Ohio State - and the kids are open for business.
Miami lands commitment from 5-star DE Jayden Wayne
By Manny Navarro
July 9, 2022
The Miami Hurricanes added another five-star recruit to their 2023 recruiting class Saturday.
Jayden Wayne, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound edge rusher from Tacoma, Wash., picked Miami over offers from Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State and LSU. Wayne, who will play his senior season at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, is ranked the 30th-best recruit in the country regardless of position and fifth overall among edge rushers.
Wayne, who also plays basketball, was credited with 44 tackles — 16 for loss — with nine sacks and 13 quarterback hurries in eight games in 2021. He also had 18 catches for 269 yards and five touchdowns as a junior.
He has been recruited since he was in the eighth grade by Miami coach Mario Cristobal. Adding Wayne gives the Hurricanes 13 commitments and bumped them up the 247Sports Composite team rankings from 11th at the start of the day Saturday to seventh with a score of 232.36 points.
What are the Hurricanes getting in Wayne?
"You guys are getting a beast, a coachable player, willing to learn. Not afraid of anything," Wayne said. "I'm ready to compete."
