He's never coached, competed, or won above a low-major, barely D-1 level.
Kim Anderson won a national title at the D-2 level, but it didn't translate. It was irrelevant experience.
And Gates "success" in the Horizon League, which is utter garbage, has been lukewarm. He's 1-20 vs Kenpom top 150 teams. His Kenpom regressed from 169 (bad) to 195 (awful) from last year to the current. And he got crushed by Wright State in the Horizon League tourney.
Hell, we may as well have hired the Wright State coach (well, if his skin tone were darker, since that seemed to be the #1 criteria).
