offended if someone was irreverent about it.

It seems a little incongruous for you to be offended by irreverence towards what you consider to be a myth, especially a holiday spawned by one that has been corrupted by corporate greed.

fwiw, I think a lot of Hindus do not believe Shiva to be a myth, but that's a different topic & not one either of us probably cares about much one way or the other.
