They can only feature the player (relying solely on their name & face recognition) which limits the value to advertisers.
There aren't many Lebron James' or Aaron Rodgers' in the college world.
So most of the money will come from boosters, funneled through local businesses and dressed up as endorsement deals. Or, mega boosters like Phil Knight (who's already doling out 6-figure deals to Oregon players, through Nike).
