The purpose of the NIL fund is to maximize revenue from player merchandise, flowing as much of that revenue back to the players as-is reasonably possible.
The primary business of the fund is to secure merchandising rights with every player on the team for a specified range of products. These would include, but would not be limited to: signed football cards, t-shirts, jerseys, helmets, footballs etc. Players would agree to sign merchandise at arranged appointments in exchange for payment. The fund would consider these transactions as wholesale purchases and would fund such purchases from the contributions of fund members.
The secondary business of the fund is the retail sale of merchandise for the purposes of additional funding. This retail business would primarily be on-line, but, if possible, would have an in-stadium store featuring the most desirable items. All proceeds from these operations flow back into the fund.
Members of the fund may desire, from time to time, to purchase wholesale items before they are offered at retail. The web-site would offer access to merchandise based on a member’s funding level, with the funder receiving merchandise essentially ‘at wholesale’ plus a nominal processing fee. Thus members who desire premium access to premium merchandise can get that based on membership level. When multiple members at the same membership level desire the same item, that item will be auctioned via the web-site. The purpose here is to maximize revenue flowing to the fund and also to correct for market value, where the allocated fund wholesale price is out of alignment with the demand for an item.
The core merchandise or ‘currency’ of the fund shall take the form of football trading cards, one for each player (preaseason, postseason and one for each player with playing minutes in each game). Game cards will be offered on the web-site and, if the retail arm of the fund so desires, at the in-stadium store.
Sometime after the completion of each game, players with playing minutes will be asked to sign at least one game card. Players at skill positions or who are popular for some reason, may be asked to sign multiple game cards. At least one game card set (that is, a set of signed cards for every player with playing minutes) will be created for each game. Retail operations will attempt to sell this set at a premium.
After each game, the NIL fund will use a sophisticated financial model to value the statistical contribution of each player, apply that valuation to the funds available for that game and then pay the player for all signed merch for that game. The financial model represents the funds best attempt to determine retail market for the merchandise of each player.
Every player with playing minutes will receive some compensation from the fund and will, at a minimum, be required to sign at least one football card for that that compensation. Players in highly visible roles may be asked to sign multiple cards and also other merch, though the player cannot be asked (per the original contract) to sign more than a maximum amount of each type of merchandise.
If the NIL fund is successful, it will be known as the largest and most reliable buyer and seller of player merchandise. It will offer the highest compensation to the players and the most ‘bang for the buck’ to funding members, in the form of ‘keeping Mizzou football competitive’ and secondarily, as a source of high-quality, genuine merchandise.
I'd like to add a small but vital caveat. The merchandising contracts sought by the NIL fund should probably be non-exclusive. That is, if a star quarterback (for example) wishes to retain additional professional agencies to market merchandise, the NIL fund would not seek to block or limit that activity in any way. The main purpose of the NIL fund is breadth not depth and where a player attains sufficient fame where additional opportunities arise beyond basic merch, the NIL fund should fully support those efforts.
