This will be Cuonzo's 3rd try. The first, bringing in the Porter brothers was a disappointment, injuries basically set us back to square 1 in his 2nd year...by his 4th year we were supposed to build towards something, the fact we didn't have expectations going into the season doesn't change what we expected to see when we hired him. Once again, we didn't accomplish much of anything and in year 5 we're back to square one.
He's going to get another chance, due to his contract, the pandemic, and the financial and social situation at the university. But basically with a 3rd of the team defecting and little to no continuity our expectations are no more than they would be for someone taking over a program in their first year. In this day and age, it's a level of performance that wouldn't secure his job in many places. A significant portion of the fanbase is tiring of the Cuonzo experiment-that isn't just here, you see it in the comment sections when newspaper articles are written about the team.
Personally, I'd like to see him succeed but feel like we know at this point what his ceiling is.
