Mathematics. Neither of those are slacker degrees. There are just as many highly intelligent teachers as there are people in other professions. Teachers simply chose a different path.

I started out in engineering and switched to Physics education I have never regretted that decision. It cost me several hundred thousand dollars over my adult life but I like what I do and after visiting some engineering firms while in college I knew I would never be happy with that job.
