That is a big reason models are built...to try to understand some stuff on a massive scale. So to some extent yes.
For example...when it comes to agriculture, adopting many practices and putting them worldwide, but allowing for differences locally truly would vastly increase the total food output using much less resources to do it.
What crop scientists have done on a massive scale has been extremely amazing in the last 20 years. Also, having systems aligned better has big accomplishments.
As I look at your question even more ...should a scientists be concerned about accomplishing...I still don't know...should a scientist be concerned with understanding the problem and proposing different models and solutions...yes...how that gets accomplished can be up to a number of other parameters.
