So things like some of the union states being slave states, the emancipation proclamation being made 3 years into the war, and Lincoln stating at his inaugural address that there would be no bloodshed over slavery and only over preserving the union get glossed over in exchange for a simple, comic book-esque good v. evil fairy tale of the war. That the north and the south lined up and duked it out over slavery once and for all.

I suppose it makes it easier to overlook the 750,000 lost lives and obliterated towns and cities.
