an argument for something being "lawful" is pretty illogical.

If the feds write a law beyond the constitution, it's not law, by nature of the constitution - it just takes a state and people to nullify it, ignore it, challenge it - rather than behave like you and point to it and say "see, it's the law, i'm right!".
