the coronavirus at this time. Yikes.
The models have been wildly inaccurate. Reality has fallen outside of the lower bounds of their confidence ranges at almost every step of the way. Some models have been inaccurate as of the same day that the model was released. And whenever someone challenges the worth or value of these models, the answer is usually a credentialism-based response like yours.
We keep hearing about a forthcoming surge in hospitalizations (from the models, that is), but it won't come. Meanwhile, real people (in the tens of millions) are suffering from the response to this virus. So questioning the value of these models, in my opinion, is more important than determining their compliance with best statistical practices or in shoving credentials on the technicalities in people's faces.
I saw an article in The Atlantic that said the models were really aimed at convincing people to take certain action. That doesn't sound like a projection; that sounds like the ends justify the means.
