where it originates from.
But I will say that I re-read the way Dave Matter covered when Odom was hired by Mizzou. And in my perception, he was almost too obvious in just being a court stenographer for Odom, constantly reporting his side.
He met with and interviewed with Memphis. That made sense.
Mizzou was speaking with and doing their due diligence on Matt Rhule, Tom Herman, Matt Campbell and other candidates candidates.
Then we get the story that Memphis offered Odom, but Memphis came out and denied it.
The way Matter covered it was weird, starting with the sentence "the clock is ticking on Missouri being able to hire Barry Odom as head coach" (paraphrasing). But I am certain he used the phrase The clock is ticking as the first four words.
As if Mizzou didn't act very quickly, we were going to lose Odom.
Then "negotiations" magically "broke down" with Odom and Memphis and he was Mizzou's coach later that night.
Seems suspicious to me.
Is Dave Matter similar age to Odom? Did he go to Mizzou around the same time and are they old college acquaintances? Did Matter cover the team for the Tribune as a student or something?
I could be out of my mind conspiratorial here. I am willing to accept that.
But my red flag is going up with Matter.
