Color me confused here.

We know that no one cares about conference championships in college basketball. Because they've been 'meaningless' since 1994. Correct?

But reaching the Elite Eight (and no further) is a choke, a failure and an underachievement, is it not? At least for some programs. So why would you rather do that? Is there now some level of prestige attendant to reaching the Elite Eight that wasn't there before?
