People who are not confident in their own beliefs systems often do that. Hypotheticals are a great way to test your own positions. Most people don’t have the guts to do it. Don’t feel bad.
The hypothetical was and remains this: you need to choose a doctor for life saving surgery for your wife. You know only a few things; one is black one is white. Both went to Yale. They are about the same age and have been practicing for about the same length of time.
You don’t get to do research, and find out which is better, blah blah blah. You have to make a decision. Of course you don’t care about the grades that got them into Yale. But maybe one is more qualified than the other. Maybe one is an affirmative action baby who would not have been there save for the color of his skin.
Alternatively, Maybe one is a legacy who is a slug and only got in because daddy donated $50 million to the school. You don’t know any of that, but you have to choose.
Don’t feel bad, most people don’t have the guts to do this either.
