Maybe they don't go out to eat as often, or don't buy the newer, bigger home... or the boat, or the other consumer items.
In general, rising fuel prices hit the brakes on an economy... and that is true, whether the oil is produced domestically or in foreign countries.
and a 68% rise in 2 years is a lot more than we have seen with wages, homes, food and so on.
