"Thought we moved to the SEC for financial reasons? Where did all that big money go?"
Revenues are still up significantly for MU, especially from SEC conference distribution. Where MU's revenue has not kept up is in ticket sales for football and basketball and donor contributions.
Expenses continue to rise as well as it simply costs more across all sports to compete in the SEC. Taking the double (or triple) of the Kim Anderson experiment was devastating for basketball revenue. The end of the Pinkel Era -- i.e. the combination of bad football and "the problems" of November 2015 - played a huge role in the last two years decline in football revenue.
But, the good news is the formula isn't complicated: win at football and basketball and MU will be back in the black to the tune of $3 to $5 million per year. See my separate post detailing the last 7 years of the Big 12 compared to the first 7 years of the SEC.
