Just finding LB and running a odd front defense is often a boon doggle of a folly and takes more talent and hybrid players than you suspect. If you have the talent it's a great Defense. But finding elite OLB/DE is very hard and they get snapped up by the Bama and UGA teams very quickly. Then are you a two gap team or a one gap team upfront or a combo of that? If you two gap you have to find elite DT who can actually demand a double team if not then your defense is a bust as is not having a Hybrid stud OLB/DE. And you better have players who are football savvy as well because the assignments are more difficult. You can't just unleash your athletic players to create havoc. That is unless you are a 3-3-5/3-5-3 8 gap defense. But that is not what we tried to morph to.
As far as the pro style offense(which we ain't moving to) ask Arkansas how that worked out? The mid-west has a ton of 6'3-6'6 athletic Bball type of OL also who can excel in the spread as well. Finding legit Road graders who are top flight and can dominate the LOS and also Pass block in play action isn't as easy as you make it out to be. GP learned that lesson when he moved away from the Ace/King/Queen and I formations with Brad Smith.
And what Player really wants to play in a Pro style system? Have you been to any high school camps? Hardly anyone runs a pro style system anymore. You see all the different versions of the spread, Wing-T, and Veer much more than a pro style offense. Jeez that is all 7-7 teams hardly ever do.
