From the perspective of a Categorical Imperative as defined by Kant, there are no conditionals. One may not act in such a way as to take a human life. That is the imperative. This is the fallacy behind capital punishment, that the state has the to take a human life as a punishment for one taking a human life. That simply doesn't work. It is either imperative or it is not. There are no conditions that may be applied. One cannot take a life unless gee it is for you know self-defense or defense of loved ones, or golly even ya know your property. Pretty soon conditions disprove the imperative.
Golly Jeff took long enough to get this to abortion. No one is pro abortion son. Currently the law allows for abortions in certain cases here in these United States. This has been done - it is thought - because a fetus is not yet a human. It is the law. I am not connected to that. I don't care. You do. Is what it is. I am not pro abortion, btw. No one is. The goal is to make them as infrequent as possible. The law provides for them, one imagines to take away the need of some to seek "back alley" situations.
These two issues are separate. Is prohibition of infanticide a categorical imperative? Yes it is. Thanks for coming.
