If the assertion is so ridiculous, why does it happen every day? If four guys commit a crime and one flips, is he not believable because he made a deal in exchange for testifying against the others? It's used to impeach because it can be, it doesn't mean it's effective.

You'd be amazed at how litte reality you know in this arena. That's assuming you can set aside the ego and admit that.
