If there was a way to prevent everyone, including government

s from possessing "weapons of mass destruction" I would be in favor of it.

I don't know if there is a way to do so, however.

IF there was a way to have some "good" government police the governments of all of the (other) governments that would be the next best alternative... but I'm even more skeptical of that possibility.

Trying to limit the number of countries with the ability to unleash weapons of mass destruction on others and kind of hoping "mutually assured destruction" is enough of a deterrent to keep them from doing so is another suboptimal "solution", but probably better than just opening it up to weapons of mass destruction for all who want and can afford them.

Or so it seems to me.
