secondary violations. It was certainly sloppy, I wouldn't contest that. Nothing that would justify any of the self penalization that was concocted or anything a program that was actually trying would have been impacted by.

MU did self impose and vacate a season 'for the hell of it', to facilitate creating a narrative of a challenging situation for a failing staff and try to deflect blame elsewhere. That was largely successful in terms of the low information section of the fanbase, and I suppose outsiders who care enough to try and follow MU basketball.
