problems facing the black community.
"Are we capable of being shocked anymore by the crime in the City of St Louis.
The shooting death of 17 year old James Scales is both frightening and alarming.
Alarming because police say Scales who was gunned down as he waited for the school bus in his North St louis neighborhood may have been a witness to a murder.
Scales was a junior at a special program at Beaumont High School.
Small wonder police say they can't find any eyewitness to the broad daylight shooting death of the teen.
The signal sent by this crime is the last thing police want. They're already having trouble getting people to come forward with information, much of that out of fear of becoming a victim themselves. And so many of the criminals that should be behind bars are instead still roaming the street more than likely continuing to cause even more trouble.
So what are people to think when a teenager who may have witnessed a crime is gunned down in broad daylight
There have ben 141 people murdered in St Louis so far in 2017.
90 of the cases are still unsolved. Police say that's largely because they can't get witnesses to come forward even when the brazen criminals strike on a street full of people.
This crime is tragic on many levels. First is the loss of James Scales. His young life ended at just 16 years old. And secondly the chilling effect his death may have on others who may think about stepping forward and cooperating. That could mean even more cold blooded criminals escaping the punishment they deserve and being free on the streets to kill again."
