First year as Tenn coach: 40
2nd year as Tenn coach: 101
3rd year as Tenn coach: 20

Year before he took Cal job: 75
First year as Cal coach: 75
2nd year as Cal coach: 19
This year as Cal coach: 10

Pretty much 1 season outside the trend of him improving a program's defense, and the year after that he had them in the top 20 with his players.
