factor in whether this team takes a leap or not.
I'm glad to read Matter's assessment. I think it will help that Phillips, Puryear and Walton can take a little more ownership of this team. If Phillips cuts down on his turnovers and plays a little more consistently, and Puryear builds on last year, and Walton emerges as the scorer we think he could be, then you're looking at a good nucleus that won't look so overmatched in the SEC. Throw that in with Barnett at the start of the second semester, the addition of Geist and Hughes, and the freshmen bigs... then we have some depth. I do think VanLeer has promise, too, especially if he gets more comfortable and finds his three-point stroke. And I'm not ready to write off Russell Woods, either (OK, did I mention everybody?!)
The roster always looks great until you start playing games -- I realize that -- but this is not a team totally without talent.
