Costs you the second tier recruits when you don’t land the whales.
This is a major part of what happened to cuonzo. he spent untold time and resources chasing five stars, didn’t get them, and then had no relationship with the high four stars.
I’ve said for years, that it is a bad idea to spend a lot of time chasing those guys. If there is a relationship, that makes the process easier, then absolutely take some of them. But now, more than ever with the portal era, the best teams don’t have multiple one year guys on them. The best teams are made up of players have been on campus for two or three years.
As it relates to these two guys in our current class,
Crowe is definitely a high candidate for a one and done, but he should be an immediate impact player that can produce with the experienced talent around him.
Bryant is a guy that will play as a freshman, but may not be a star until his sophomore year.
You can’t operate in constant fear that everybody is going to transfer, because most guys don’t end up transferring. And with the new profit sharing system, we are on an inevitable path toward contracts that keep those players locked in anyway.
There could be a scenario where Mizzou signed a couple of top 10 players, and I might not agree with it. but in this particular scenario, I do not feel like we didn’t waste resources to get here and I think these guys can fit, so I’m kind of excited about it.
