hoped Putin would capitulate to reason and underestimated Putin's idealism.

Trump could cut ukraine off and let the EU deal with it OR he can try to find ground where Putin satiates his needs (and justifies the war to his country) yet Ukraine/EU/rest of the world can accept it.

Hopefully, Trump and Putin can establish a future framework that allows Russia to lean West economically, culturally - that's the real prize imo; China is the real issue, not Russia.
