agreement can be made with Russia. Russia has said that isn't going to happen. Unless their demands, which have been repeated over and over for months are met, there will be no cease fire... the war will be settled on the battlefield.
I think the most rational US position would be for Trump to listen attentatively to Putin & his delegation, while stating Ukraine & NATO'S position as accurately and fairly as he can. It sounds like that would leave things in an intractable stalemate for now.
If so, he should accurately relay Putin's response to Ukraine & NATO & let them know that if they refuse the Russian demands that the US will respectfully pull out of the conflict and hand the reins over to Ukraine & Europe to settle with Russia as they see fit, whether on the battlefield or at the negotiating table, either now or at some point in the future.
That is essentially the position of John Mearsheimer, Col Douglass MacGregor & Col Daniel Davis and is what makes the most sense from my point of view.
