think. It seems the identification with their group vs the other influences their political positions and many are not aware of how their positions shift as the group shifts. Nor are they aware of similar ideals that they share with this the other
I could do the same with Slavoj Zizek’s quotes on identity politics and many on the right would agree, even though he is communist.
Politics, or I should say politicians and influencers are intentionally focusing on the differences to divide people. This is unfortunate because people do not see the common ground they have. The common ground that would give them a connection from which discussion and compromise in the differences could be found.
Instead people are drifting to their favorite Twitter influencers, favorite news sources and discussion groups that are just echo chambers of us vs them.
Reddit is really interesting because those in a group who speak out of step with the group are quickly downvoted and ridiculed by the group. The group as a metaphorical body deploying its immune system to attack a cell that may be pre-cancerous to prevent those ideas from spreading within the group. The philosophy of immunology covers this, but I’m only just starting to study it.
