confusion

1. his autobiography says he was
2. he has a dubious form from the state of Hawaii that says he was born there

However,
1. his half bother says he was born in Kenya
2. His original literary agent said he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia
3. Columbia University has sealed his admission records.


My take - he was born in Hawaii, but probably lied about being born in Kenya early in his career and schooling in order to take advantage of scholarships and other grants - that's why there's conflicting information.
