Kids from both schools had been jawing back and forth from early in the meet. At about 8:00 pm a fight erupted, the gawkers rushed to see what was happening and the fracas spilled over the outer fence into the neighborhood. After coaches and event officials lost control, school officials must have decided to pull the plug on the track meet. I counted a half dozen cop cars. They stopped traffic for about four square blocks around the area south of the football field.
