There are some big unknowns, such as whether or not we really do have the upper hand, or whether China might be able to stare us down & prevail on the strength of their own growing power as a manufacturer, trading partner, cheap labor, know how (much of which was stolen intellectual property from their western trading partners, and from their infiltration of western universities).
Their dictatorial powers may give them an advantage compared to Trump's vulnerability to being undercut (whether rightly or wrongly) by the legislative or judicial branches of the US government. Despite his ability to stand on his own regardless of popularity or attacks from others, he is still more influenced by business leaders, public opinion, financial markets etc. than Xi Jinping is.
Their relative economic strength as well as that of their trading partnerships will also be a major factor if they want to fight this out over a longer haul.
