letting the Jewish leaders and their followers kill Jesus, the Christ, in fact, ordering his troops to carry out the evil deed.
The Catholic Church had some corrupt leaders along with many saints. The governments had an incentive to try and corrupt and influence them, of course, and had some notable successes in doing so. But in general the Church has been a good influence on societies, not the cause of making governments or societies evil.
In fact, Europe was "barbarians" before the Christians converted them. Christendom, as it became known in the Middle Ages was a vast improvement over the pagan barbarian hordes that they had been. It was from Christendom that we got hospitals, orphanages and the university systems and, of course the scientific method. Western culture was superior to any other non-Christian culture.
Communism, on the other hand, attacked Christianity in every country that they took over and the violence and destruction of society followed as surely as night follows day in every one. That is no coincidence.
