illegal for state schools to charge tuition. Everything that you paid was technically a fee for this or a fee for that but not actually tuition. There was a class action lawsuit in the late 90s that challenged this idea and the judge ruled that the fees were actually just tuition, and every Mizzou graduate was offered to take one class for free as part of the class action settlement.
They did away with that law, but I suppose it’s possible there are other laws or regulations that they deal with regarding how fees or other funds are used across campus
