I would say that any new coaching hire needs 3-4 seasons to try to establish a program, but I’m afraid we would just be delaying the inevitable to keep Gates another season. The reality is that he will be on the hot seat next season and will likely be fired if he has a sub .500 record. There will be no talent returning that will be capable to carry a team of freshmen, no matter how promising these freshmen may be. It seems highly unlikely that Mizzou will catch fire next season and we will be replacing the coaching staff. If there is a good candidate available, we should move now.
