The hope is that the transition will one day catch up to a point the subsidies can go away and the market can support the demand. That's a big hope. But right now what you're seeing is Multi-billion dollar battery plants that are being built and coal plants are coming back online from being mothballed to support the power needed to make batteries. And that's not even taking into account the amount of power on the grid if everyone needed to start charging cars. We're not ready for it but the government is pushing car manufacturers and the public forward either way.
It's absurd. And the only thing more absurd is thinking this is good for the environment right now.
