chris klieman let his defensive coordinator, scottie hazelton, go to michigan state when they doubled his salary four years ago. there's a certain amount of financial acumen necessary to successfully running a program like k-state v. aTm where money is like dust in the desert.

to directly answer your question, klieman and klein were very close. the latter had complete control of the offensive unit. he was highly regarded by everyone, beloved actually. and a great recruiter as well.
