Independence. Self reliance. Help when needed but as a safety net rather than guarantee against failure. People came here not to demand their current culture be celebrated but to become a part of the American culture. That was a great strength of our country over its first roughly 200 years.
As this decayed over time? Absolutely. We see it big time now even down to the point where the American culture is downgraded and it is demanded we equally celebrate all cultures. But the nature of every society in the history of man is that it erodes over time as man is the weak link. Our founders worked to set up a system to delay this as long as possible.
