A man with whom I agree on most things, hates Trump desperately. Said he voted for him twice will never do so again under any circumstances.
"I just can't stand him". Was his reasoning.
I told him as I have posted on here, that I don't know if I like him or not. Probably not too much. Probably don't want to go to dinner with him. And I'm not voting for a new best friend.
What was so terrible about the Trump years, I asked. He's just awful, he's a terrible person. Was the response.
After a few more jousts like that, with more vague answers the subject turned to foreign policy. I revised the Trump discussion regarding Iran, China, Russia, North Korea . He admitted that well maybe, he did pretty well with foreign policy.
I then asked what specifically he didn't like was it trump's crime policies, border policies...? He said Trump hired awful people. I had no profound response to that.
When I asked again, why he despises Trump so passionately, like the idiots on this board, he answered a different question, that being what the republican party has to do to win. And he cited the abortion issue as a prime example. It was almost unbelievable that this educated, generally sensible man offered the following statement, paraphrasing about abortion. "I don't care what you think about abortion, and I think it's murder, but the woman has the right to decide".
The woman has the right to decide whether or not to commit murder.
We talked about overturning, Roe v. Wade, and I said that, leaving it up to the states was the logical outcome of that court decision. He said that he didn't care, it should be up to the woman, and it needs to be voted on and decided legislatively not by the courts.
I mentioned that individual states have different tax structures, different regulations, and different policies in a number of areas. Why should this be different? He said it should be up to the woman.
I thought I was talking to one of the idiots on the board. He couldn't give reasons, couldn't give rationale only responded with his opinion of
WHAT THE LAW SHOULD BE.
We agreed that Ukraine should be left on its own, he thinks the same for Israel.
Ahhh family.
