In other words, the jury's still out. He could turn out to be a fine coach, or he could be Haith/Cuonzo 2.0 — a good first season, followed by mediocrity.

It bothered me that many Mizzou fans couldn't see the potential in Drinkwitz, yet wanted to build some unproven Horizon League coach a statue. It was bizarre, but we'll find out this year if Gates can win without an NBA first-rounder inherited from his predecessor.
