His recruiting SMS was bad. Keith Pickens was the only solid player he brought in and he was going to ask him to play out of position at the point.
He recruited a couple of players to Tennessee that ended up in the NBA, but he did not land highly rated players out of high school. And in three years at Cal he signed to highly rated players. Gates 2024 class will probably contain more high-end talent than Martin recruited in his entire career outside of the Porter year at Mizzou.
