start at a mid major and move up to a major conference or program (I assume it would consider a transfer to Gonzaga as moving up from even a lot of major conference programs). But there are A LOT of players that don't want to sit on the bench of a major conference or elite team and are willing to move down for playing time.
This is why the transfer portal will somewhat offset the impact of NIL. Most players want the exposure and PT over the money. Kansas and Kentucky practically lost their entire bench this year (at least those without clear paths to a starting role) and I suspect some of those players had decent NIL deals. But nobody wants to ride the bench.
