That doesn't guarantee you'll be competitive every year, but it gives you a chance to win meaningful things.
The current Big 12 teams will inevitably decline as the revenue gap widens. They'll still have some teams catch lightning in a bottle from time to time, but the odds of any of them advancing far into the playoffs will basically be zero. Football is not like basketball in terms of "Cinderallas". You're never going to see a Butler or Gonzaga type team reach the national title game due to roster size and the number of elite players it requires. It's a matter of probabilities.
Lastly, if/when NIL (and/or the portal) is ever reined in, Mizzou's chances of success will increase significantly (as a P2 program).
