accept their conclusion that Ukraine is winning.

I have a hard time believing anything "they" say. There are a few contrary voices, Douglas MacGregor, Scott Ritter, Alex Mercouris, to name a few, but you have to look for them. Based on their sources, what's happening on the ground is very different than the narrative.

You can also read into things like this weeks neo-con plead in WAPO from Rice and Gates for more support for Ukraine that maybe things aren't going as well as the narrative suggests.
