because the Germans had overstretched supply lines and their troops were out in the open and not prepared for the cold. The Russians (should say Soviets) were also highly motivated to push the Germans out of their country; morale was high.
None of the same factors are in the Russian's favor in this war. They are the ones on the offensive and out in the open and have serious morale issues. The Ukrainians are fighting on their own ground for their own cities and as adapted to the cold as the Russians. Not sure winter gives the Russians any of the advantages they had against the Germans or Napoleon.
