with Russia that if they let their various states go that the west would not expand NATO. Russia kept their end of the bargain and NATO expanded in country after country along their border.
Putin kept warning the world that this was going to lead to war, but with the US at the forefront we kept on poking the bear.
The CIA et al were involved in instigating the coup that overthrew the President of Ukraine two years before his term expired and conspired to put in a president hostile to Russia. It was also hostile to the people in eastern Ukraine who were largely of Russian descent and pro-Russian.
The US & NATO was also training Ukraine on how to prevail in a war against Russia, and had Green Berets and other special forces over there for a long time. There were also giving them weapons & promises of all the weapons and money they would need to prevail.
When Russia tried to negotiate they encouraged Zelensky not to do so, though even Israel encouraged them to prevent the bloodshed. But NATO & the US promised Zelensky that they had his back. He is a rich man now. Unfortunately, Ukraine is a mess, though.
The US finally pushed Putin over the edge, and the world is on the verge of a world war.
But the US military industrial complex is raking in the dough, and the factories producing missiles and tanks, planes and helicopters are cranking out the equipment... and the profits for those calling the shots.
Russia feels that they're backed into a corner. If they respond by attacking any NATO country the US is AUTOMATICALLY in a war, along with most of Europe. China is an ally of Russia and they are already hell bent on taking over Taiwan and have publicly proclaimed that they will readily continuously rain down nuclear missiles on Japan until they unconditionally surrender should they so much as lift a finger to aid the US in trying to prevent them from doing so.
Of course the US also has treaties stating that we will be Japan's protectors in the event of any attacks so that puts us at war with the two largest nuclear powers other than ourselves.
Treaties automatically forcing countries into war if their treaty partners are attacked is how the 'The War To End All Wars" so quickly became a World War.
As things stand now, any little spark could ignite WWIII in a time where most countries are armed with almost unimaginable levels of weapons of mass destruction... and both sides are thrusting out their chests and rattling their sabers in a game of chicken with Armageddon as the 'prize' if no one backs down.
