internal candidate and the "safe" way to go. He knew why the trajectory was pointing down in 2015 and could give the right answers on how to fix it. We were a top 10 defense that year and he did an incredible job as the DC. Being an alum had very little to do with it. If he was the DC at Memphis or somewhere else applying for the same job at the same time, I don't see him getting it.
I think you overestimate the interest in the job at the time. Following a legend is never easy and when you couple that with the heap of **** that was getting thrown on the new coach, I just don't think the interest was there from quality candidates. Everyone interested in the job would have been a risk at that point.
I really don't care to get in the mud with you about this for the 100th time, but you seem to have some personal distaste for Odom for wanting/taking the job. The reality is he took over a very ****ty situation and did a decent job. He didn't keep enough good players in-state and the team looked unprepared the for long stretches of seasons. However, as of this point Drink has been no better on the field than he has. That's what matters and I'm hopeful that changes in the next couple of years.
