Mizzou is a desirable sports property...
• The flagship university of a top 20 state, with 2 major TV markets.
• The only power conference school in the state.
• An AAU member, and one of only 63 schools to have that distinction.
• A rich history in college sports, from the Big 6 to Big 8 to Big 12 to SEC.
• A nationally recognized brand in "Mizzou".
• Perfectly geographically situated for the SEC (4 border states) and B1G (3 border states).
• Natural rivalries with multiple schools from either conference (Arky, OU, NU, Illini).
• Expands the footprint in a meaningful way, and a good cultural fit for either league.
• And for the SEC, MU helps "bridge" the west-ward expansion to Oklahoma, adding further value & synergy.
And yet, some Mizzou fans/alums seem to be baffled as to why the SEC wanted us, or why so many sportswriters have named us as an ideal candidate for Big Ten expansion over the years.

Mizzou alum Dennis Dodd had to this to say in an article today:
One conference official reminded me that schools commit to a conference, not the other way around.
So, out with Vanderbilt and Missouri, in with Clemson and Miami? Out with Indiana and Purdue, in with Oregon and Washington?

Why would he write that?.. Does he hate his alma mater?

Meanwhile, other national sportswriters who *aren't* Mizzou alums are saying things like this:

They understand why Mizzou is valuable. The only ones who don't seem to be a faction of self-loathing Mizzou alums.
Maybe Dodd secretly dreams of the SEC expelling MU, to reunite with the school he
really loves. The afterthought that no one else wanted.
