1. The original Roe decision was not an error, much less a gross error. The gross error was overturning it, which is going to cause a lot more problems in other areas, and actually will insert government into areas of privacy where it has no business, like the bedroom of consenting adults.
2. While you are technically correct that the ruling itself doesn't directly ban abortion, it has indirectly banned abortion in somewhere around 30 states by allowing the states to violate privacy. Look for those states to similarly ban contraception, gay marriage, the right to choose your sexual partner, and perhaps even interracial marriages. All those rulings are based on the same privacy arguments that Roe was decided on.
Essentially, what the court has done is to say that it's ok for states to discriminate against women, blacks, and gays.
